Schnauzerfest was started in 2014 as a fundraiser to help pay veterinary bills incurred by rescues when taking in dogs saved from puppy farms. It was an idea inspired by one dog - Susie-Belle.
Susie-Belle was saved from a puppy farm after 8 long years of suffering. She was almost blinded by cataracts, untreated eye infections and ‘dry eye’ a serious, but treatable eye condition, common in neglected schnauzers and other breeds.
She required months of vet care and had her eyesight restored while in rescue. The cost for her surgery ran into several thousands of pounds.
Susie-Belle was adopted by Janetta Harvey who recognised the huge financial demand on rescues to fund cataract surgery. Today, to restore a dog’s eyesight with this specialist treatment it costs between five to nine thousand pounds. The cost has risen rapidly in recent times.
The Schnauzerfest Bright Eyes Appeal is a fund dedicated to paying for eye treatment. Every year the charity helps many dogs and we recognise the cost is high per dog but we know it is worth every penny. However, those pennies have to be raised. This is where you can make a fantastic and very special difference to a blind dog by making a gift today.
On our Stories page you can find many wonderful examples of lives that have been turned around and transformed. By restoring a dogs’ eyesight, especially one who has existed in the grim environment of a puppy farm, it removes a major hurdle on their journey towards happiness. A journey that is often full of difficult challenges.
Here are just some of the dogs whose eyesight has been restored by generous and loving Schnauzerfest supporters.
If you can donate today, even the smallest amount, you will make a difference.
