Nellie and Ted

Nellie

South East Dog Rescue (SEDR) recently saved the life of miniature schnauzer Nellie who they took in when she was an unclaimed stray. As a stray, nothing at all is known about her background, but she is extremely fearful and has clearly had a difficult life. It was thought she might be pregnant, but thankfully an ultrasound showed this not to be the case.

SEDR works hard to give all dogs with them the best possible care and future life and quickly moved Nellie into a foster home. She has spent the past week settling in, getting to understand slowly but surely that she is now safe and humans can be kind. Nellie is booked in for spaying and will receive all necessary veterinary treatment before being available for homing.

Ted

Around the same time Nellie arrived with SEDR they also took in Ted, a 5 year old staffie schnauzer cross. He is a love bug and is spending time in his foster home, so his full requirements for a perfect new home will be understood. What a handsome boy!

nellie’s update - January 2022

Nellie bounced back well after her spay but required an extensive dental and removal of several teeth. At the same time, her ears were flushed under anaesthetic, they have clearly been a problem for her for a long time. The great news for Nellie is that she went off to her new home recently, officially she’s being fostered with a view to it becoming permanent. Nellie’s life is sure to get better and better every day as Zoe, with her schnauzer Coco understands that lfie will be on Nellie’s terms, and at her pace. Sadly in November Zoe lost her much loved Izzy Bear, an ex-puppy farm dog who needed plenty of what Nellie is now receiving.

The vet costs are, as always, hefty. The funds provided by Schnauzerfest to South East Dog Rescue have been absolutely crucial for Nellie to get back on her feet, spayed, eating well, ears recovering nicely and in less discomfort and pain.
She cannot thank everyone enough. Neither can we. These two organisations truly do have dog welfare at their very large heart.
— Zoe, Nellie's new human friend and companion

Zoe took Nellie along to meet a friend and her schnauzer Mitzi this week. Nellie was fascinated by the ducks in the pond and while frightened of most things, she was calm and happy when approached by a friendly dog. Zoe adds that it was a short and sweet trip out, to enjoy a bit of morning sun and meet kind people and friendly dogs. It sounds an ideal introduction to Nellie’s new world.
