An awesome foursome of dogs helped by collaboration between our charity and Starfish Dog Rescue.
We knew in advance that Starfish would be taking in a number of dogs who’d been saved from a terrible breeding situation. And arrangements were made so that all their veterinary care would be funded by a Schnauzerfest Grant. It wouldn’t be known until the dogs were with Starfish what their exact needs would be, but we had it covered. Paying vet bills for rescued breeding dogs is our priority.
The operation to save the breeding dogs was one that for legal and other reasons not much could be said. This is ongoing, one day the full story will be put here. The good news is the place the dogs were taken from is no longer in business. The bad news is that many dogs were harmed over many years. But these four dogs got the good fortune (at last) to be rescued, and to be taken in by Starfish, a small and dedicated foster based rescue.
All dogs were cared for over a few weeks in experienced foster homes and their veterinary care started straight away. Starfish are excellent at getting things underway for the dogs without delay, they really want to see the dogs’ new lives start as quickly as possible. This is something Schnauzerfest is always happy to support. All dogs were neutered, given dentals where needed along with other care. Dolly had a slightly bumpy road when a heart murmur was picked up, but on further investigations, it was found to be low grade, and her spay went ahead.
All dogs recovered well and are now in their new homes. Their lives as cherished members of families, not breeding commodities, are well underway.
Maisie was another dog taken from the same situation. We look forward to the day when we can bring all details of the case to everyone. For now, we thank every donor to our charity for making it possible for us to collaborate with rescues for the best outcome for the dogs.
