Ella is a miniature schnauzer whose detailed background is unknown. What can be deduced is that her life has been complicated and undoubtedly involved producing puppies many times over.
Despite this, her personality shines bright. In her foster home she’s much more at ease than many dogs saved from breeding lives and it’s possible, although we’ll never know for sure, that at one time Ella lived as a pet.
It’s not unheard of for pet dogs to find themselves caught in circumstances resulting in them being bought up by unscrupulous breeders. A K9 Magazine article discusses this with experienced puppy farm investigators, Puppy Love Campaigns,
Ella is under the care of the Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre and recently saw the ophthalmologist at The Ralph Veterinary Referral Centre. For, despite her settling well into her foster home, she has cataracts. The good news is that she’s a candidate for surgery and both eyes will soon be operated on, restoring her eyesight. This will be a wonderful boost for Ella’s chances at going confidently into the bright new world of being a much loved schnauzer when she’s ready for adoption.

MARCH 2020
Ella’s cataract surgery went ahead as planned and was a success. She recovered well and with newly restored sight, her character blossoms today. She will be ready to move to the next, exciting phase of her life and be adopted as soon as the Covid-19 restrictions lift, permitting adoptions and rehoming to resume.
JULY 2020
After delays caused by COVID-19 in rehoming, Ella has finally gone off to her new home. She has a new brother, Toby, who lost his canine sister Tavy just under 2 year ago. Ella is now living in a truly stunning part of the UK - Dartmoor. She has such beauty and interesting places to walk right on her doorstep. A far cry from the concrete confinement of a cell in a puppy farm. From the first meeting, Toby & Ella have got along brilliantly, he’s enjoying sharing his favourite place. Everything is working out as we'd all hoped it would.
THIS is what every donation made to our charity makes possible.

DECEMBER 2020
From day one of her arrival in her new home Ella ‘settled in as if she had been just waiting to come home’, says her adopter, Donna. In the five months since, she’s grown in confidence and has the sweetest, most affectionate nature. She snuggles up to big brother Toby, who washes her face and ears, and generally takes care of her. Living on the edge of Dartmoor, Ella enjoys many moorland walks and has grown accustomed to the sheep and free roaming ponies.
Unlike some dogs from deprived backgrounds in breeding places, Ella seems to hold no fears and wants to play with everyone. Donna says the greatest risk on walks is her tendency to follow other walkers and dogs. In October, she got to enjoy a postponed holiday to a cottage in East Devon and experienced her first visit to a beach.
While her overall health is thankfully good, Ella did have six teeth extracted. She will require eye drops for life, but with restored vision following successful cataract surgery, it’s a minor inconvenience in an otherwise wonderful life Ella is enjoying.
