Esme

Esme arrived with Ember into rescue with Dogs Friends 3 days ago. She’s around 3-4 years old and has lived her whole life in a puppy farm in Wales. It’s clear to her rescuers that she’s been bred from repeatedly and it was thought she might be pregnant. The good news for her is that following a scan yesterday, this is not the case. Her days of delivering puppies are over for this sweet soul.

While nervous, Esme’s fosterer Clare reports that she’s curious and in just a short time has made some tentative steps towards living a normal life as the dog she deserves to be, not the breeding commodity she’s been kept as until this point. She does have a low grade heart murmur but her vet considers her to be in good health.

Esme’s had her first groom - probably the first in her life - her coat was severely matted and filthy dirty. She’s lived surrounded by her own waste, with little to no care. But all that is now over, she could not be better cared for and when ready, she will have the brightest possible life to be out enjoying.

Enjoy seeing Esme hanging out in her foster home with Indie, her new foster sister, who no doubt is reassuring her that life is good.

MAY 2020

Esme has been doing so well with her fosterer Clare that it’s time for her to be rehomed. The great news is that she is being adopted by a local friend of Clare’s so she will still get to visit Ember and Clare’s crew regularly. This is fantastic, a home of her own with a family, she will have all the cuddles she chooses.

What a turn around for a puppy farm dog who until being rescued would have known no kindness whatsoever.

Esme has been with her family now for five months and out of the puppy farm for seven. Life could not be more different for this dog, who back in March arrived in rescue in a state of neglect, filthy, infected and deprived of any sense of being a normal dog. She has settled well with the family, the children adore her, and her them. Her innate confidence has undoubtedly helped her to adjust and put her bad past behind her.

She’s recently been spayed and had some dental work, all of which was straightforward and from which she’s recovered quickly. She gets to return to Clare and have playdates with Ember and the gang regularly and all in all, have a great life in which she’s thriving.

Donations to Schnauzerfest mean we can continue to help dogs like Esme get all the care and treatment they need to live their best possible lives.
