Ollie

Ollie was surrendered to Friends of Rescue, Northern Ireland and as soon as he arrived in their care, it was clear that his problems were not recent. The upsetting state of his sadness and confusion was matched by the physical signs of years of neglect. Ollie’s ears were completely closed due to longstanding, untreated infection and mite infestation, his teeth and mouth were infected and in bad condition, his skin was infected and there was no doubt at all that Ollie was in severe pain. On top of all this, Ollie has a grade 4 heart murmur.

Life has been harsh to Ollie, he slept in a shed for 9 years and neglect of his basic needs has taken a big toll on this sweet, gentle dog. However, a few days on from being taken into the care of his rescue, Ollie has received the first, and most urgent veterinary treatment and is recovering well with his fosterer Kirsty, and his foster brother, Carl. He’s wobbly and afraid but accepting of and enjoying being loved and cared for. The next few weeks will be important not only to deal with the infections and ear treatment, which are going to require further intervention in a few weeks time, but to help Ollie build trust with kind humans.

Donations to our charity mean a Schnauzerfest Grant will help his rescue with Ollie’s veterinary expenses.

Ollie now lives in Belfast with his new family - which includes 4 schnauzer siblings. He’s settled in brilliantly, enjoys pottering in the garden, walks further afield and is happily food obsessed, something his new mum and dad happily indulge. Our view is that he deserves all the goodness and kindness coming his way!

He’s such a gentle wee pet. We aren’t sure what’s gone on in Ollie’s past but his nervousness, plus his fear of men, makes us think he hasn’t always been treated well. It is our privilege to surround him with love and to make him feel safe and secure. We love Ollie and promise to give him his best life for the rest of his woofer years
