When Friends of Rescue NI heard about Dee they knew they had to act and do so fast. This, despite being at full capacity and like many rescues, close to breaking point. Dee was in a council pound and had been attacked by another dog, causing serious injuries to her neck which had become infected and infested with maggots. They sought immediate veterinary treatment for her injuries as soon as she was in their care. But there was a surprise waiting for everyone.
Dee was pregnant.
She had not only been left in a council pound to an uncertain fate, then attacked and all while heavily pregnant. Fortunately, Friends of Rescue quickly placed her in a foster home, where it wasn’t long before her litter of healthy puppies were born. Despite all the trauma she has endured, Dee is proving to be a wonderful mum.
Schnauzerfest is a charity which, when it is financially able to do so, will support rescues which take in dogs from the pound system and ensures they are never bred from again.
A Schnauzerfest veterinary grant is in place to assist with the costs of Dee and her puppies care.
