When 6 year old Sherlock’s adopters contacted us he needed an urgent admission to a referral hospital. After several weeks of ill health, treatment and tests, it looked very likely a blood transfusion was needed and more extensive investigations to identify the cause of his symptoms which included severe anaemia.
His family had exhausted his insurance cover and other financial options in the weeks up to Sherlock’s critical situation. An application was submitted to the charity and the decision was made quickly to provide financial assistance. Within hours of Schnauzerfest being contacted, Sherlock was admitted to hospital.
Sherlock spent a few days undergoing tests, close monitoring and treatment to stabilise his condition. Fortunately despite the severity of his anaemia no blood transfusion was required.
Sherlock has immune-mediated thrombocytopenia (IMTP) which has caused severe anaemia. He was discharged from the referral practice for close observation at home and with a therapy plan in place. It is hoped this will lead to continued improvements in Sherlock’s condition.

Sherlock’s recovery continues to go well. His recent hospital check up showed great results.
Dad Ashley says, "Sherlocks platelets are now at the normal level they should be, he's looking really healthy and back to his usual happy boy, which absolutely amazing, two weeks ago we thought we'd lost him! Sherlock is to go for another blood test in 3 weeks to determine whether to keep him on the medication or start reducing the dosage."
Sherlock’s family are now able to cover his future treatment costs and are planning some exciting fundraising for Schnauzerfest this year.
