We were recently awarded £3000 from the Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust. This money will enable us to send out grants to rescues which are really struggling at the moment in the middle of an animal welfare crisis in the UK.
While Schnauzerfest will always prioritise funding veterinary bills for schnauzers, we are also committed to helping rescues which care for every dog that is in need of dedicated humans to do their very best. There are many small rescues operating solely on donations and their own fundraising efforts each year. Rescues which do not have financial reserves to fall back on during this time of real crisis. We are actively seeking out these rescues, and ways to help them survive.
Two thousand pounds of the The Jean Sainsbury Grant has gone out to one of them this week.
Ravens Rescue, a foster-based rescue which operates in the Midlands area last week had to temporarily close in order to focus on clearing a very large outstanding vet bill they faced. When one of our Trustees saw this news, it was quickly agreed by the Board of Trustees that a Schnauzerfest Grant would go to Ravens Rescue.
We are pleased that through the Jean Sainsbury award, we have been able to support the reopening of a small, dedicated rescue at a time when rescue spaces have never been more needed.
