When we lost our first dog, Jasmine, we found a good breeder and brought Renae home at 8 weeks old. I wanted a friend for her and adopted Susie-Belle, a miniature schnauzer who had spent 8 years in a terrible puppy farm.
I knew a little about puppy farming but nothing really prepared me for what adopting her would lead to. In our first year together Susie-Belle changed the direction of my life as I realised that puppy farming is a massive and complete catastrophe for dogs. I was gripped by a need to do much more, to reach as many people as possible with the truth about today’s puppy business.
I’ve since written several books, countless blogs and articles and in 2014 started Schnauzerfest as a way to support rescues which help dogs saved from lives of breeding and other bad backgrounds. I’ve now adopted 4 other miniature schnauzers from puppy farm backgrounds, Twinkle who sadly died in July 2019, Cerise, Albert Claude and Angel Star.
Susie-Belle died in 2015 and Schnauzerfest is her legacy, everything we do is in her memory.
