Mario arrived via the dog warden into the care of Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue . He had been taken to a local vet with the story of being found as a stray. Subsequently it was found his owner left him, having previously been advised that the rescue would help once a foster home was arranged.
Sadly, owners jumping waiting lists, or simply abandoning their dogs is happening more and more as adoptions are slowing down, the cost of living crisis bites and demands on rescue organisations are rocketing. Spaces are limited, and abandoning dogs is a sad and terrible reality.
Mario was in a terrible condition with fur matted to the skin, ear and eye infections and a mouth full of rotten teeth. Treatment has started and it is hoped that Mario will soon be free of all his painful issues. A full Schnauzerfest Grant is in place and supporting his rescue.
Mario is doing very well in his foster home, even enjoying a little trip out in a cycle trailer to see the local countryside around the rescue.
JUNE UPDATE
Mario’s dental went ahead as scheduled and the good and bad news for him was that he had all his remaining teeth removed. Bad of course, but also good that he will no longer have to put up with pain and infection in his mouth. His family say he loves his specially prepared meals and is doing great.
He has also started hydrotherapy and supplements to ease his stiffness and help his overall fitness.
All in all, Mario is doing wonderfully well and his rescue are delighted with his progress and very grateful for the love and generous support the Schnauzerfest community are giving Mario.
JANUARY 2024
Mario is enjoying his wonderful life with his adopters and is doing very well indeed. And we had the good news that his mum works in a vet practice and his rescue, Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue is kindly supporting them as their 2024 charity. What a wonderful outcome for all.
