When Sprouts suddenly lost her sight due to diabetes induced cataracts a referral was swiftly arranged. Sadly, due to irreversible damage and the speed of the cataract development, Sprouts sight could not be restored. As she was experiencing considerable pain, pain relief was started immediately and eye removal surgery was booked.
As soon as the pain relief started working Sprouts made a rapid return to her usual much happier self. This was a big relief for her family as it suggested that a sightless future for Sprouts was going to be ok.
Sprouts’s surgery went ahead as planned and she was home within a day or so to continue her recovery. Her family stayed in regular touch and were relieved that Sprouts was soon adapting to moving around the house and garden comfortably.
With each day which passes, Sprouts is feeling more and more confident and with the support and love of her family, is getting out and about on her favourite walks. Using the buggy in the early days helped everyone feel happier.
“We tried the buggy for the first time and Sprouts really appreciated it. We let her walk a bit but when she froze, as she does after a while, I put her in the buggy and she was very pleased to cruise along still sniffing the air. This is the first really good long walk Maisy has had since Sprouts went blind and it is wonderful that we can continue doing so together.’”
Resilience is one thing which dogs show us, and Sprouts and family are shining examples of this and lots of love in the face of difficulties. Thank you for helping Schnauzerfest be there when needed.
