When Raiven left the breeding industry her adopters knew that challenges lay ahead. They adopted her knowing she had a heart murmur and were not deterred, making the kind decision to fully finance her medical needs. It all seemed manageable and with plenty of plans for good experiences and holidays in the offing Raiven started her new life with her family positively. Greatly helped by her adoptive sister Lilli mai.
But then came a bolt out of the blue which left everyone reeling.
Raiven’s heart problems are more complex than a heart murmur. Following concern from her adopters who felt there was something more going on, a full heart scan revealed that Raiven has sub-aortic stenosis (SAS) and her heart muscle has thickened. An urgent referral to a cardiology specialist was sought to see whether surgery was required, and if so, an option for Raiven.
The estimated costs for Raiven’s treatment were in the region of £8000-£10000. As her condition is pre-existing, no insurance cover is available. Raiven is not yet 6 years old and has lived a life of neglect and exploitation in the breeding industry. The decision was made in consultation with her adopters and rescue that a Schnauzerfest Grant would be available.
At her referral appointment with The Ralph there was much more positive news than anyone expected. While Raiven does have moderate SAS, a grade 4/6 heart murmur and mild mitral valve dysplasia (MVDys), the recommendation from the specialist was that no medical or surgical intervention is needed at this stage.
This is very good news and with annual cardiac rechecks, unless anything changes in between, Raiven is expected to enjoy a healthy, happy life. One where she is deeply and unconditionally loved.
