Willow is a schnauzer cross whose life before rescue has been hard and neglectful. Her age is estimated to be around 6 years old and she has been kept outside the whole time. When North East Terrier Rescue were asked to help her, she was due to be euthanised.
She arrived in a dreadful state, a reflection of the poor conditions she has been kept in. As Willow has had no socialisation, her fear responses were high and a lot of compassionate, understanding work is being done to help her overcome such a rough, sad existence. The good news is that she is responding well and making great strides in her confidence.
Her medical needs include the removal of major mammary lumps, spaying and a set of diagnostic bloods, scans, xrays, plus vaccinations. A Schnauzerfest Grant will cover her medical costs in full.
Willow is currently recovering from the first of the mammary strips and spay. This proved to be a big operation for her. Because of the extent of the lumps, a second surgery will be required in a few weeks time.
Willow is doing well and it won’t be too long before she has the second of her surgeries. She is adjusting very well to living indoors, although having been kept outside her whole life, it is taking a lot of work on her part to get used to it, but she is steadily progressing. She loves her walks and is perfect on lead and has learnt good recall. Her fosterer describes her as a ‘super loving, tactile, affectionate girlie, who is very smart and very beautiful.’
