When elderly Indy arrvied as a stray with Dumfries & Galloway Canine Rescue Centre it was clear something was seriously wrong. She had a large lump on her abdomen and many signs of neglect. Her age is around 13 and the rescue quickly realised she would need urgent investigation.
It turned out that Indy’s lump was a huge hernia; her bladder and uterus had started to fuse together and it had been that way for some time. Despite her advanced age, there was no choice but to go ahead with surgery. While she was under anaesthetic, she also had 18 teeth removed. Indy has not had an easy time of it at all.
However, Indy is courageous and within a a few days she was recovering well and showing her happy self as she moved into her foster home. She continues to do well with her recovery.
AUGUST 2022
Indy settled in so well with her foster home, that they couldn’t bear to part with her and she was officially adopted. She has put on 2kg of weight and is almost at the target weight the vet will be happy with. Her family absolutely love this beautiful dog, including her new canine sibling. They get on great, sleep happily together and her adoptive mum says it’s like Indy has always been with them. She’s been introduced to the joys of a Puppachino which we’re told went down an absolute storm!
DECEMBER 2022
Indy is doing superbly with her adoptive family. Over the past few months she’s gained weight and confidence and is thriving. There was a recent blip and she needed to spend time in the emergency vet, but a bout of upset tummy was soon sorted and she bounced back, thankfully.
Rhia her adopter tell us she is by far the most stubborn dog she knows, which we think is great. What a wonderful thing it must be for once unloved Indy to know she can now be as stubborn and cheeky as she chooses to be.
