Naya

In August 2024 Naya fell dangerously ill. Her age was unknown as she was adopted after leaving the breeding industry but a good estimate was she was at least eleven and a half. On adopting her in 2016, Jayne became a committed advocate for rescue dogs and against puppy farming. She is a regular fundraiser for Schnauzerfest, mobilising others to walk for the cause, and has raised many thousands of pounds for the charity.

Jayne independently took Naya through several health challenges and set backs. Their bond becoming stronger, their resilience tested each time.

In the summer Naya had several bouts of illness, with hospital visits required. Each very costly but thankfully covered by insurance. However, when another hit, with her insurance cover exceeded, Naya was hospitalised for emergency treatment.

There was no hesitation from the charity trustees when they assessed Naya’s application for assistance, that Naya met all criteria. Thankfully, Naya pulled through and enjoyed a few good weeks of health.

“We would like to thank Schnauzerfest for all the support during this difficult time. They have been amazing checking in with us to see how we are all doing. We would also like to thank every single one of you that has donated, shared and sent wonderful messages, it has meant everything”
— Jayne, August 2024

Then, in October, it became clear that something was seriously wrong with Naya. A specialist referral was arranged. Unfortunately Naya’s condition could not be cured. Her family faced the devastating reality that it was time to let her go peacefully.

Although Naya is no longer with them, Jayne continues in her memory to campaign and raise awareness of the plight of dogs in the breeding industry. Naya’s family remain committed to making a difference.
